Kano, Nigeria — June 2025
In a powerful display of unity and resilience, the Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment and Equality (WISE) successfully hosted its first-ever Intersectional Women’s Leadership Forum in Kano State. The event brought together over 100 participants including grassroots organizers, youth leaders, and human rights advocates from across Northern Nigeria.
The forum provided a safe, inclusive space for participants to engage in critical conversations around bodily autonomy, leadership, and social justice. Facilitated through panel discussions, storytelling sessions, and strategy workshops, attendees explored the intersectionality of identity, power, and policy — and how these factors shape the lived experiences of marginalized women in the region.
“Our aim is to amplify the voices often left unheard,” said the WISE Executive Director. “This forum is a bold step toward collective empowerment and policy advocacy rooted in lived experiences.”
Highlights of the event included:
- A storytelling circle that humanized the challenges faced by marginalized women under discriminatory laws.
- Capacity-building workshops on advocacy, digital security, and leadership.
- A strategic dialogue with community stakeholders and religious leaders.
WISE remains committed to creating platforms that inspire hope, build resilience, and equip women with the tools to lead change.
